The Episcopy

The Episcopy

The building is located in Via Vittorio Emanuele in the historic centre of Castelsardo, and probably dates to the moment the city was founded in the medieval period, in the 12th century.

When the Episcopal See of the Diocese of Tempio-Ampurias was transferred to Castelsardo in 1503, the Episcopio became the bishop’s residence, the heart of the political and administrative activity of the Diocese. The older part has remained unaltered since that time and is open to the public; inside you can see the original furnishings, including the library with a number of prestigious volumes of the epoch.

A plaque on the outside commemorates the fact that Charles Albert of Savoy stayed there in 1829 when he visited the city along with General Della Marmora.
